Cabinet reshuffle not discussed, Prime Minister's sole prerogative, says Zahid

PUTRAJAYA: The matter of reshuffling the Cabinet line-up has never been discussed in Cabinet meetings as it is the sole prerogative of the Prime Minister, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said that the power to reshuffle Cabinet or appoint its members lies entirely with the Prime Minister.

"There has never been a discussion in Cabinet about reshuffling... never... it is the Prime Minister's sole prerogative to reshuffle Cabinet and appoint those who should be members or deputy ministers," he said.

He made these remarks to reporters after the monthly assembly of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry here on Tuesday (Nov 11), in response to whether this afternoon's Special Cabinet Meeting would discuss a Cabinet reshuffle or related matters.

On Nov 8, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick confirmed his resignation from the Federal Cabinet in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said that the special meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to focus solely on the issue of the 40% revenue entitlement claim by Sabah.

"It specifically addresses the 40% claim as decided by the Kota Kinabalu High Court," he said.

On Monday (Nov 10), the Prime Minister said that a decision on Sabah's 40% revenue entitlement claim would be finalised in Tuesday's Special Cabinet Meeting.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the government would consider the Attorney General's advice before deciding whether to file an appeal or otherwise. – Bernama
