Gombak man blackmailed after sharing nude photos via dating app

GOMBAK: A man was blackmailed by a person he met on a dating app after he inadvertently sent nude photos of himself.

In a statement on Sunday (Nov 9), Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the victim lodged a police report on Nov 5.

The 23-year-old victim told police he had previously met a woman through a dating app and exchanged phone numbers.

"The suspect then contacted the victim and showed interest in him. They began communicating via video call on WeChat.

"The suspect then exchanged nude photos with the victim. However, the suspect started blackmailing the man, threatening to spread the footage if he did not pay up," he said.

A total of RM9,000 was sent to a digital bank account.

"Investigations are ongoing, with police working to identify the bank account holder and the phone number used during their communications," he said.
