KUALA LUMPUR: A former executive director of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was charged at the Sessions Court here with a charge of receiving a RM50,000 bribe from an individual.
Mohamad Hamim @ Mohamed Kamaruddin was accused of receiving a bribe in his capacity as a public servant from the individual with whom he has official work relations in DBKL.
The offence was allegedly committed at a premises in Jalan Changkat Tunku on Jan 10.
The charge was framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Yasri Yahya offered bail at RM25,000 with one surety.
He also requested that additional bail conditions be imposed on the accused, which included staying away from prosecution witnesses, surrendering his passport to the court, and reporting his attendance to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on a monthly basis until the case is disposed of.
Lawyer Mohd Alif Anuar, who represented the accused, sought a lower bail amount on the grounds that his client was the sole breadwinner and had a disabled child.
Judge Azura Alwi fixed bail at RM15,000 in one surety.
"This court will not withhold the accused's passport, but he needs to do a written application to the court each time he wants to go abroad," Azura said.
She also ordered the accused to report his attendance at the MACC's office in Kuala Lumpur once a month until the disposal of the case.
The court fixed Jan 12 for mention.
