Education Ministry introduces new subject to replace science, health, arts, music

PETALING JAYA: A new subject, Alam dan Manusia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu (The World and Humanity: Integrated Learning), will be introduced for Year One pupils under the 2027 School Curriculum.

It would replace the existing Science, Health Education, Visual Arts Education, and Music Education subjects.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 6), the Education Ministry said the new subject aims to integrate multiple disciplines, including science, health, music, visual arts, technical, vocational education and training (TVET) and digital literacy.

The ministry said the primary focus at Level One (Years One, Two and Three) would be on mastering literacy and numeracy (the 3Rs) as well as character building.

Therefore, only a minimal number of subjects would be taught to enable pupils to develop foundational skills.

The subject would be taught through a co-teaching approach, where two teachers would conduct lessons together in the same classroom.

“Co-teaching involves joint lesson planning, teaching, and assessment. This supports pupils’ personalised learning needs, improves classroom management for a higher quality learning experience, and strengthens the multidisciplinary nature of the subject by allowing teachers to complement each other’s strengths,” it said.
