PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has concluded its term as Chair of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) Assembly of Parties for the 2024/2025 session with the successful organisation of two international programmes.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the programmes were the Regional Summer Academy organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in collaboration with IACA, and the International Conference on Governance and Integrity held by the Prime Minister's Department Legal Affairs Division.
"The conference, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 15, highlighted Malaysia's leadership in strengthening international cooperation in anti-corruption education and professional training under IACA," she said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 5).
Azalina said Malaysia's chairmanship strengthened the country's role in expanding anti-corruption education, training and research networks under IACA.
"This effort focused on capacity-building, strengthening integrity in the public and private sectors, and promoting international cooperation through knowledge and experience sharing," she said.
Azalina said the approach is aligned with the Malaysia Madani aspiration under Anwar's leadership, which emphasises institutional reform grounded in integrity and accountability.
"For Malaysia, integrity is not only a national value but a universal principle that drives justice and global progress," she said.
Malaysia, as Chair of the IACA Assembly of Parties, also oversaw the IACA Work Plan 2025-2028 and the IACA Budget 2025, which form the foundation for the academy's direction as a global centre of excellence for professional anti-corruption training.
"Through Malaysia's active role in IACA, we remain committed to building a system of governance that is transparent, effective and principled, while elevating Malaysia's position as a global partner in promoting justice and universal honesty," she said.
Azalina said Malaysia's historic appointment on Oct 30, 2024 in Vienna marked the first time the country has been entrusted to lead the Assembly of Parties of IACA, an international institution under the United Nations that focuses on training, education and research in global anti-corruption efforts.
The unanimous selection by 77 member states and four international organisations reflects global confidence in Malaysia's leadership and commitment to strengthening integrity, governance and institutional reform at the international level, she added.
She said Malaysia has formally handed over the chairmanship to Montenegro's Permanent Representative to IACA, Djordje Radulović, marking the conclusion of Malaysia's term and ensuring continuity of leadership and cooperation among member countries in reinforcing IACA's role as a global leader in anti-corruption education, training and research. - Bernama
