Thunderstorm warning issued for 10 states, KL and Putrajaya


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across 10 states as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, with warnings in effect until 6pm on Sunday (Nov 2).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.

Perlis is on alert for severe weather.

The districts of Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah are under the warning.

Areas such as Hulu Perak, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim in Perak are forecasted to be affected.

Kelantan's districts of Jeli and Kuala Krai are expected to be affected.

Terengganu areas such as Marang, Dungun and Kemaman are anticipated to be affected.

Pahang districts including Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin are expected to experience severe weather conditions.

Selangor areas such as Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang are on alert, along with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Negeri Sembilan districts including Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin are forecasted to be affected.

Melaka is also under the warning.

Johor is expected to experience adverse conditions.

The divisions of Kuching, Sarikei and Mukah (Tanjung Manis) in Sarawak are anticipated to be affected.

Sabah's West Coast (Ranau and Kota Belud), Tawau (Kunak, Semporna and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran) divisions are under the warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
