Over RM500,000 worth of ganja seized, two arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 18.5kg of ganja buds worth about half a million ringgit were seized following a raid at a condominium carpark in Old Klang Road.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said a local man,47, and a woman, 56, were also nabbed during the raid on Saturday (Oct 25).

"KL Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) officers detained the pair at about 3.20pm following intelligence on a drug distribution network operating in the Klang Valley.

"A check on their vehicle led to the discovery of several packages containing 18.5kg of ganja buds worth RM553,500. We also seized RM250 in cash from the suspects," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 28).

Comm Fadil said the seized drugs could have been distributed to about 37,000 users.

"The syndicate is believed to have been active since August and used condominium car parks as their main transaction points,” he added.

Initial urine tests on both suspects came back negative for drugs. They have been remanded for six days until Oct 31, to assist in the investigation.

“This success stems from continuous intelligence efforts by the KL NCID and cooperation from the public,” he said.

Comm Fadil said the police would not compromise in taking action against any party involved in drug trafficking, possession, or protection of such activities.

The public is urged to report any information related to drug distribution through the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
