Man nabbed in Serian with over 17,000 child sexual abuse and porn videos, images

SERIAN: A 53-year-old man has been detained for allegedly possessing more than 17,000 pornographic videos and images, including child sexual abuse materials.

Serian OCPD Supt Freddy Bian said the suspect was arrested during a special operation known as Ops Pedo at 7.05pm on Monday (Oct 27).

The operation was conducted by officers from the D11 (Malaysian Internet Crime Against Children Investigative Unit) division of the Sarawak police contingent headquarters.

"The arrest took place at an unnumbered house in the Serian district.

"During the operation, police also seized a mobile phone with a SIM card and a micro SD card," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 28).

Supt Freddy said a detailed inspection of the confiscated phone found 17,632 pornographic videos and images involving adults, as well as child sexual abuse materials.

The case is being investigated under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for accessing or storing child abuse material, and Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene material.

Convictions under Section 10 include jail of up to five years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

Those found guilty under Section 292 face up to three years' jail, a fine, or both.

"We will continue to monitor and take stern action against individuals involved in such offences," Supt Freddy added.
