Over 1,800 flood victims placed at 14 relief centres in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: More than 1,800 people have been evacuated from their homes and placed at temporary relief centres across Kedah.

The Kedah Disaster Management Committee said as of 8am on Saturday (Oct 25), a total of 1,858 victims from 587 families had been placed at 14 temporary relief centres in four flood-affected districts.

"Kulim still has the highest number of evacuees with 1,470 people followed by Baling with 251 evacuees.

"The other affected districts are Pokok Sena with 85 victims and Kuala Muda at 52 victims," it said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 25).

The evacuation centre with the highest number of evacuees is located at SMA Insaniah Jangkang with 474 evacuees followed by SK Merbau Pulas and SK Pagar Museh with 335 and 324 victims respectively.

Five river monitoring stations have recorded dangerous water levels.

These include Sungai Chepir, Sungai Ketil,Sungai Laka, Sungai Titi Kerbau and Sungai Pendang.

Another four river monitoring stations recorded warning and alert levels.
