Over 1,700 evacuated due to floods in Perak, 23 relief centres activated


IPOH: Some 1,776 people in Manjung and Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) districts have been displaced following several hours of downpour.

According to the Perak Civil Defence Force, 1,413 people in LMS and 363 in Manjung have been sent to 23 temporary relief shelters since 8pm on Thursday (Oct 23).

In LMS districts, more than 35 villages and housing areas were affected.

Some of these included Kampung Simpang Halt, Kampung Batu 8 and 9, Kampung Ulu Sepetang, Kampung Jelapang Jaya, Taman Simpang Makmur, Taman Kamunting Mutiara, Kampung Matang Gelugor and Kampung Padang Gajah.

In Manjung, nine areas were involved, including Kampung Nelayang, Kampung Sungai Batu, Taman Pantai Wang, Kampung Lorong Masjid, Pantai Tin, Kampung Padang Serai, Kampung Tersusun, Taman Anggerik and Kampung Pulau Kabung.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to continue for most part of Friday in Perak, especially LMS, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Hilir Perak.
