MELAKA: Police have arrested a man for allegedly snatching and manhandling his ex-girlfriend in the compound of a mosque in Kampung Melaka Pindah, Alor Gajah here.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 38-year-old suspect was arrested by police from the Alor Gajah CID at 7pm the same day at a house on Jalan Ayer Hitam Lendu, Kampung Ayer Hitam.
"The suspect, who is also a pensioner with a record of eight drug-related offences and two other crimes, has been detained for investigations under Section 363 for kidnapping and Section 326 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury using a sharp weapon," he said in a statement here today.
Earlier, Dzulkhairi said in the incident at about 4.30pm on Tuesday (Oct 21), a 35-year-old woman was reported to have been abducted and injured by her ex-boyfriend near the mosque. The suspect, brandishing a 25cm-long knife, forced the woman into his car.
"Once inside, the victim was beaten, punched in the head and stomped on the chest for two to three minutes," he said.
The suspect then transferred the victim to another car and drove away with her, with a sword pointed at her chest.
"When he stopped at a shop in Taman Sutera Indah, Kelamak, the victim sent a WhatsApp message and location to her ex-husband for help," he said.
Dzulkhairi said not long after, the suspect stopped at a house in Alor Gajah before two men, believed to be the victim's siblings, approached and broke the suspect's car window, leading to a struggle.
"The victim escaped from the car and floored the suspect with a flower pot in the face," he said.
Dzulkhairi said several minutes later, police and an ambulance arrived and took the suspect away and sent the victim to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment.
"The victim suffered a stab wound to the right arm and received four stitches," he said.
He said the suspect was unhappy that the victim had refused to reconcile with him after discovering he had a wife and children," he said. – Bernama
