Police investigate viral assault incident in Rantau Panjang


SIBU: A man is reported to be in critical condition after allegedly being assaulted by several individuals in an incident that has gone viral on social media.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkifli Suhaili stated that the incident was believed to have occurred in Rantau Panjang, Sibu and that the police have detected a video of the event.

“The victim was seen lying on the road and is believed to have been beaten by multiple individuals. He was taken to Sibu Hospital for further treatment and is currently reported to be in critical condition,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 16).

Following the incident, police arrested a 47-year-old local man suspected of involvement.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be brought to court for remand to assist in the investigation,” he added.

The police have also advised the public not to share the video of the incident or make any speculative comments that could interfere with the investigation.
