Selangor cops to increase school patrols

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police will step up patrols, including regularly deploying Mobile Patrol Vehicles (MPVs) into school compounds, to enhance police presence throughout school hours.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the measure, which also strengthens the school liaison officer programme, was part of ongoing initiatives to ensure a safe environment in schools.

"We will intensify these efforts, allowing patrol vehicles to enter school grounds periodically to improve police visibility and ensure a faster response if needed.

"This initiative is based on the directive of Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and will be implemented across Selangor as part of a broader plan to guarantee the safety of students, teachers and parents,” he told a press conference here on Wednesday (Oct 15).

Comm Shazeli said the tightened security measures were not solely in response to the murder of a 16-year-old female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, in Tuesday (Oct 14). Rather, it aims to reinforce existing safety protocols, including allowing MPVs to patrol within school premises.

He said the police were taking the case seriously and were collaborating closely with the Education Ministry and the Selangor Education Department to identify the most effective ways to maintain school safety.

Comm Shazeli also advised students and parents that any form of bullying, threats, or violence constitutes a criminal offence and the police would take strict action without compromise.

"Bullying is not just a joke or peer pressure; it is a crime. The police will not tolerate any bullying or violent acts among students,” he said.

The police are also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to remove images or personal information of the victim and suspect circulating on social media platforms.

In the incident, which occurred around 9.30am, a 14-year-old male student is suspected of stabbing a female Form Three student, who later died.- Bernama
