Negri Sembilan influenza cases double with 10 clusters reported, says MB

SEREMBAN: The number of influenza and influenza-like illness clusters in the state increased to 10 last week from four previously, with nine reported in schools alone, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Mentri Besar said the number of cases also almost doubled from 154 to 299.

"Seven clusters were reported in Seremban followed by one each in Kuala Pilah, Jelebu and Rembau.

"The bulk of the cases involved students, including those studying in residential schools," he said, adding that one cluster was reported at a private pre-school.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting at Wisma Negri, Aminuddin said the majority of those who fell ill were given out-patient treatment and that the situation was stable.

Aminuddin said the health authorities have also taken steps such as carrying out disinfection in the affected areas.

He also advised the people to maintain good personal hygiene and to seek treatment quickly if they felt sick.

"Those with symptoms are encouraged to wear a mask.

"Students who are sick should also stay away from school to prevent others from contracting the virus," he said.

Aminuddin also urged schools to report to the health authorities if their students displayed symptoms.
