Higher Education Ministry permits online, hybrid learning for Hindu students, lecturers over Deepavali

PETALING JAYA: The Higher Education Ministry will allow online or hybrid teaching and learning (PdP) sessions for Hindu students and lecturers across all public higher education institutions, including public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges, in conjunction with Deepavali on Oct 20.

The ministry said the arrangement will take effect from Oct 16 to Oct 24, 2025.

“However, the implementation will depend on the suitability and academic requirements of each institution to ensure that the overall academic schedule is not disrupted.

“This measure aims to provide space and flexibility for Hindu students and lecturers to celebrate Deepavali with their families in a harmonious and meaningful atmosphere, in line with the spirit of inclusivity and unity in Malaysia’s multicultural society,” the ministry said in a statement on Monday (Oct 13).
