KOTA TINGGI: Kolej Pendidikan Yayasan Pelajaran Johor will soon be upgraded to a university college, says Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Onn Hafiz said this follows the Higher Education Ministry’s approval to upgrade the status of the state-owned college on Oct 7.
“This is a major milestone for education in Johor, which is also in line with Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail’s decree to elevate the standard of education in the state.
“We will work closely with the Higher Education Ministry to ensure that this university college will succeed not only at the state level but also internationally,” he said.
Onn Hafiz told the press after officiating at college’s 26th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday (Oct 11).
Onn Hafiz, who is also the college’s board chairman, added that the new university college is expected to take its first intake of Bachelor’s degree students in February next year.
“I will seek the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and the Johor Regent for the official name of the university college,” he said.
More than 800 graduates would be receiving their respective certificates and diplomas at the ceremony here.
