Senior citizen dies after pickup truck overturns in Skudai accident


JOHOR BARU: A senior citizen died on the spot after being involved in an accident at Jalan Bukit Impian, Taman Impian Emas in Skudai near here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh said the incident between a 4WD pickup truck and a lorry took place Thursday (Oct 9) at 11.37am.

"The pickup truck driven by the 72-year-old man was coming from KM17m entering a slip road towards Jalan Impian Emas," he said in a statement.

ACP Balveer said the victim lost control of the vehicle hitting the metal road divider and entered the opposite lane before colliding with a lorry driven by a 56-year-old local man.

"The impact of the collision caused the pickup truck to overturn to the left lane of Jalan Bukit Impian," he added.

ACP Balveer said the victim who suffered severe injuries was pronounced dead on the site whilst the lorry driver sustained minor injuries.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 addresses causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
