Anwar to meet NGO leaders, discuss humanitarian aid for Gaza via Egypt

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet with several non-governmental organization (NGO) leaders next Tuesday (Oct 13) to discuss detailed strategies for the second wave of humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, Palestine, via land routes in Egypt, Sinar Hairan reports.

The Prime Minister said that the meeting aims to coordinate Malaysia's efforts with NGOs active in international humanitarian missions and to find the best methods to channel aid to the conflict-ridden region, the Malay language daily reported.

He clarified that the government fully supports any initiative that aids the liberation of Palestine and efforts to break the blockade at the Rafah crossing.

"I believe strategy and wisdom are crucial. On Friday (Oct 10), the 2026 Budget will be presented — if there are any requests, make them now!

"Next Tuesday, I will call Sany Araby, Nadir Al-Nuri, and other colleagues to discuss how to break through the Rafah wall.

"After consulting with them, if possible, I will contact Egypt's President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, next week. Hopefully, this path will be easier. Importantly, our message is to support the Palestinian people's struggle," he said.

He made these remarks during his speech at the Solidarity Assembly with Gaza: Malaysia Wave, Free Palestine held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil on Wednesday (Oct 8).

Previously, Sinar Harian reported that the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) director-general Datuk Dr Sany Araby Abdul Alim had sought Anwar's permission to initiate a second wave of humanitarian missions to Gaza via Egypt after Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists were unable to deliver aid due to their mission ships being intercepted by Israeli forces last week.

Anwar also emphasised that the world cannot remain silent about the oppression faced by Palestinians.

"Alhamdulillah, with the NGOs driving Sumud Nusantara, Malaysia's name is now esteemed worldwide.

"This is a free and independent country willing to befriend all nations, yet steadfastly upholding principles of freedom and justice without fear of anyone," he added.
