Education Ministry cancels rugby tournament after student's death


IPOH: The Education Ministry has called off the 2025 National-Level Fully Residential Schools (SBP) Rugby Sevens Championship here following the death of a student participating in the tournament on Friday (Oct 3).

In a statement on Saturday (Oct 4), the ministry said the championship, which was supposed to run until Sunday (Oct 5), would be rescheduled to a new date.

According to the ministry, the student collapsed during a match and was given initial treatment by the on-duty medical team before being rushed to a hospital.

The student was declared dead at the hospital, and the ministry has extended its condolences to the family of the student. - Bernama
