Seberang Perai teacher remanded on suspicion of raping 14-year-old student


BALIK PULAU: A teacher from a secondary school in Seberang Perai has been remanded for four days by a Magistrate's Court here to assist in the investigation of a case involving the rape of a 14-year-old student, Sinar Harian reports.

The Malay language daily reported that the 32-year-old man was remanded from Friday (Oct 3) until Oct 6 for investigations under Section 376(2) of the Penal Code.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Chia Huey Ting.

Earlier, the suspect, dressed in a long-sleeved yellow T-shirt and sports trousers, arrived at the court at 8:14am escorted by police.

It is understood that the suspect surrendered at the Southwest District Police Headquarters after the victim, who is also a student at the same school, filed a report regarding the incident.

The victim reported being raped by the suspect in the open parking area of a shopping complex at Persiaran Bayan Indah here, in November last year.
