Police receive reports against Rafidah Ibrahim over old surau issue

IPOH: The police have received three reports against activist and actress Rafidah Ibrahim for allegedly attempting to incite public hatred towards the government over the issue of the old surau in Kampung Seri Keramat, Pasir Puteh, Hulu Kinta.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the reports were lodged by several parties in the Ipoh district on Thursday (Oct 2).

"Three reports have been filed, but Rafidah Ibrahim has not yet been called to give her statement," he told reporters after a ceremony to honour retirees and soon-to-retire personnel of the Perak Police Contingent at the Officers' Mess in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here on Thursday.

Earlier, the media reported that Rafidah, in a short video posted on social media, claimed that Surau al-Karamah in Pasir Puteh would be demolished by a housing developer to make way for a road.

The Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) has since advised the public not to be influenced by inaccurate claims, clarifying that the surau, built on private developer-owned land, was constructed without approval and was never authorised by the council.

Meanwhile, Ipoh Timor PKR Youth chief Izzuddin Hariz said attempts by certain individuals to revive the issue were irresponsible and aimed at fuelling public resentment against the government. – Bernama
