Defence Minister Mohd Khaled on two-day official visit to Qatar

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is currently on a two-day official visit to Qatar aimed at strengthening the strategic relationship and defence cooperation between the two countries.

He shared on Facebook that he arrived at Hamad International Airport in Doha on Sunday (Sept 28) and was received by official representatives of the Qatari government, including Commander of the Emiri Air Force of Qatar, Maj Gen Mohamed Al Dosari, as well as Malaysia’s Ambassador to Qatar Faizal Razali, and Malaysia’s defence attache in Ankara, Colonel Edafi Daud.

"This visit will witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defence cooperation between Malaysia and Qatar.

"It will mark a new chapter in reinforcing the strategic relationship and defence collaboration between the two nations,” he wrote.

Khaled is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani.

The courtesy call will be followed by a bilateral meeting before an official visit to Barzan Holdings, a defence-related government-linked company in Qatar, to witness the signing of the MOU between Malaysian company Ingress Corporation Bhd and Barzan Holdings.

Accompanying Khaled in the Malaysian delegation are Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar and Defence Ministry deputy secretary-general (Policy) Mohd Yani Daud. – Bernama
