Woman dies, three injured after two vehicles collide in Batu Pahat


BATU PAHAT: A woman was killed while three others were injured in an accident involving two vehicles in front of the Ayer Hitam Agricultural Institute in Batu Pahat.

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Khirdir Kamaludin said a distress call was received at 8.04pm on Saturday (Sept 27) about the incident, which involved nine victims.

Six personnel were deployed to the scene, which was located 7km away, and found that a woman had died after being trapped inside a car.

Two other women sustained injuries, while a man in the same vehicle was unharmed, he said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 28).

He added that five other victims comprising three women and two men did not suffer any injuries.

"All victims who were trapped were extricated and handed over to the police, while the deceased was handed over for further action," he said.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Batu Pahat police chief Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident.

The accident is believed to have occurred when a car travelling straight from Ayer Hitam towards Kluang suddenly collided with an MPV that had entered the road from the road shoulder.

As a result, a 54-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel due to severe chest and internal injuries.

He added that three family members of the victim were also injured in the same car.

A 21-year-old woman sustained chest and left knee injuries, a 51-year-old woman sustained neck injuries, and a 59-year-old man sustained hand injuries.

Meanwhile, among the six family members in the MPV, a 13-year-old girl and a 73-year-old woman sustained facial and leg injuries respectively.

The 47-year-old male driver, a 47-year-old female passenger, and a 17-year-old boy escaped unhurt.

Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
