Man reported missing in Teluk Batik found drowned in Pulau Pangkor


IPOH: A 60-year-old man, who was reported missing after swimming in the sea at Pantai Teluk Batik on Friday (Sept 26) morning, was found drowned in the waters off Pulau Pangkor the same evening.

Members of the public found the floating body of V. Thanabalan, 60, at about 5.15pm near Masjid Al-Badr Seribu Selawat in Pulau Pangkor, about 3km from where he was reported missing.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting operations assistant director Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the search operation was launched using three boats from the Seri Manjung Fire and Rescue Station, the Pangkor Island Fire and Rescue Station, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

"The body was taken to the Fire Department Control Post in Teluk Batik before being handed over to the police," he said in a statement, adding that the operation ended at 5.40pm.

Earlier, the victim's family reported that the victim had gone missing after entering the water. The family is said to be on holiday in the area and had performed a prayer ceremony before the incident. - Bernama
