Anwar hints at good news for Sabah in Budget 2026

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will get good news in Budget 2026, which will be tabled in Parliament on Oct 10, hints Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister gave the hint that there was something special in the coming Budget for Sabah, when speaking to villagers of Kg Kobuni in Kionsom Inanam near here, Friday (Sept 26).

He also disclosed that the federal government was fast tracking allocations for various disaster relief and damage repair efforts, including RM39mil for a school which needed immediate rehabilitation.

He also looked at the Inanam river and said that deepening and broadening works were being addressed under several phases.

Some flood mitigations were in their first phase while the second phase were being sped up, said Anwar.

Earlier in his speech, he said the Madani government also saw to the distribution of allocations to allow for projects like the Pan Borneo Highway to commence.

He said money had been given and it was a matter of implementation.

The PM said Sabah and Sarawak have always been given special consideration, citing the example of the diesel hike in Peninsular Malaysia, with the two Borneo states exempted.

“The price of diesel has gone up in Malaya, but the price in Sabah and Sarawak has not changed,” he said, adding that these were some of the steps taken by the Madani government to help the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

Anwar said Malaysia is the only country in the world that has reduced its oil price, adding that he could not keep his promise to bring it down the second day after winning the general election due to the high debts of the previous government.

He said Malaysia today is an internationally respected government and he even received a call from US President Donald Trump, who is expected to come for the Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur next month.

He said other leaders including China, India, the European Union, Italy, Brazil and Russia, have indicated they might also come.

Anwar said this was because Malaysia is a peaceful and stable country, which further boosted confidence amongst other nations to come here.
