PUTRAJAYA: Stocks of MyKad are sufficient for the rollout of the government’s Budi95 targeted subsidy initiative, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister said the National Registration Department (NRD) has also been instructed to extend its counter operation hours to accommodate the anticipated spike in MyKad replacement applications.
"The NRD will extend its operational hours if there is a need.
"So far, the stocks of MyKad are sufficient," he told reporters after visiting NRD headquarters here and monitoring counter operations on Tuesday (Sept 23).

Saifuddin Nasution said counter services were running smoothly, with most transactions carried out without a hitch.
"There was a sizable crowd, but it was manageable.
"Applicants from several places, such as Putrajaya, Salak Tinggi and Subang chose to settle matters at NRD headquarters because of the faster turnaround.
"Most people can get things done within a day," he added.
Following the announcement of free MyKad replacement for damaged chips starting today until Oct 7, he said the usual RM10 fee will be waived during this period to ensure Malaysians can fully benefit from Budi95.

"Replacement applications are expected to rise from the current average of 30,000 a month to about 40,000 following the announcement.
"The government is projected to absorb an estimated RM714,660 in costs from the fee exemption," he added.
He also advised the public to check their MyKad and replace faulty ones promptly before the Budi95 targeted subsidy programme takes effect.
Saifuddin said that Sept 30 simply marks the start of targeted subsidies, but does not mean Malaysians need to rush to petrol stations on that day.

"Fuel purchases and usage will continue as normal, with eligible citizens automatically enjoying the new subsidised prices.
"The targeted subsidy policy, a longstanding government commitment, was developed after extensive consultations with stakeholders.
"Its main aim is to prevent leakages by ensuring non-citizens no longer benefit from subsidised petrol. Savings from the move will be channelled back to Malaysians through other welfare and social justice programmes," he said.
Under Budi95, Malaysians aged 16 and above with a MyKad and a valid driving licence will be eligible to purchase up to 300 litres of RON95 petrol a month at a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre from Sept 30.
A MyKad with a functioning chip is required at points of sale to verify a buyer's eligibility.
