Diesel smuggling syndicate had underworld links, says Azam Baki


PUTRAJAYA: A diesel smuggling syndicate busted by the Multi-Agency Task Force (MATF) employed the services of the underworld figures, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the syndicate, which operated in Sabah and Sarawak, had help from gang members for their diesel smuggling activities.

"The secret societies offered the syndicate protection, especially during the transfer of diesel at sea.

"We are investigating further to uncover the extent of their involvement," he told reporters at the MACC headquarters on Monday (Sept 22).
