Viral video shows new tool used to verify RON95 petrol subsidy eligibility

KUALA LUMPUR: A new tool for implementing the targeted subsidy system for RON95 petrol went viral on social media after a video recording of it was uploaded to Eric See To-Lim Sian See's Facebook.

The 1-minute and 13-second video demonstrates a training session provided by the supplier to gas station operators on how to operate the machine, reported Sinar Harian.

The video shows that the machine scans the user's MyKad to determine their eligibility for subsidised prices.

On the screen, customers would see a blue display if they're eligible, red if their subsidy quota has run out, and an error message for those who are not eligible.

The tool also enables operators to create orders based on the customer's pump type, verify fill amounts, and issue receipts for review and payment.

The government previously confirmed the targeted implementation of the RON95 subsidy with a target price of RM1.99 per litre for eligible Malaysians.

Those who do not qualify would be charged the full market price in line with the two-tier pricing concept.
