KULAI: A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in a coffeeshop toilet here.
Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said they received a report from the victim's grandmother, a 57-year-old woman, at 9.29pm on Sunday (Sept 14).
"She informed us that around 7.30pm, her nine-year-old granddaughter was molested by a local man at the premises on Jalan Jambu Air, Taman Iris here," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 18).
He said policemen arrested the suspect at about 5.45pm on Thursday in the Kulai area.
"Checks revealed that the suspect has a criminal record of three offences, including sex crimes.
"Investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect's involvement in other cases in and outside of Kulai," said ACP Tan.
He added that the suspect would be brought to the Kulai Magistrate's Court for a remand application on Friday (Sept 19).
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
