Anwar approves RM10mil of emergency flood relief

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an emergency allocation of RM10mil through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to assist flood victims in Sabah.

Anwar said the funds will be disbursed directly to those affected, and that priority will be given for infrastructure repair.

This latest sum comes in addition to RM11mil already channelled via the Sabah government.

“I am profoundly moved by the impact of the floods currently affecting Sabah.

“I have directed the full mobilisation of the Madani government’s machinery to ensure that assistance reaches victims swiftly and without disruption,” Anwar said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The Prime Minister emphasised that immediate attention must be directed towards safeguarding lives and securing the welfare and livelihoods of those displaced.

“The Madani government will ensure that every affected family receives assistance without delay,” he stressed.

Anwar also called on Malaysians to come together in solidarity and compassion during this crisis.

“I urge all parties to unite and lend their strength, placing the spirit of ihsan (compassion) above all else in helping the people.

“Let us demonstrate our shared sense of togetherness, care and responsibility as we confront this daunting test,” Anwar said.

He said the government will continue to monitor the situation closely, with relief operations being coordinated to ensure that aid and support reach the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Sabah government will give RM10,000 assistance to the next of kin of people who perished in the current disaster, while each head of family registered at evacuation centres would receive RM1,000.
