PETALING JAYA: Traffic has started to slow down along major highways ahead of the long weekend holiday in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

At 9pm on Friday (Sept 12), there was congestion on the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) towards Bukit Lanjan and north-bound traffic on the PLUS highway from Sungai Buloh, Nilai Utara, Seremban and Sungai Besi.

Aside from that, slow-moving traffic was also seen at the Menora Tunnel, Gua Tempurung, Rawang and Juru.

Congestion was also seen westbound from Sunway.

On Thursday, PLUS Malaysia Berhad said it was anticipating a surge in traffic flow, with up to 2.2 million vehicles expected per day across its highway network on the peak travel days of Sept 12, 13, 19 and 20, due to the school holidays and Malaysia Day.

In a statement, PLUS advised users of the PLUS Expressway and the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) to plan their journeys by consulting the digital travel schedule, MyPLUS-TTA on the PLUS app.

"With recent enhancements, the MyPLUS-TTA can now be accessed on selected peak days. It is designed to help highway users plan their journeys on the PLUS and LPT2 expressways more efficiently during these peak periods outside of the festive season.

"This will also help ensure smoother traffic flow and provide a more comfortable travel experience," the statement read.
