Beaufort declared disaster area following floods

KOTA KINABALU: Beaufort has been declared a disaster area following floods caused by continuous heavy rain in the district on Tuesday (Sept 9).

Beaufort District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Nazri Ajun said the declaration was made based on field reports and information from agencies within the committee.

Mohd Nazri, who is also the Beaufort District Officer, said the Permanent Relief Centre (PPK) in Selagon has been activated to house residents affected by the disaster.

"The Selagon PPK was opened after inspections found that the areas and homes of the disaster-affected residents were unsafe to occupy,” he said in a statement here. — Bernama
