PETALING JAYA: Two separate raids by the Immigration Department led to the arrest of 101 people.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that the first raid was conducted on Aug 26 at an industrial area in Shah Alam after a recycling plant was suspected of hiring undocumented migrants.
Checks there led to the detention of 36 Bangladeshi nationals aged 35 to 50 years old.
"All detained have been placed at the Lenggeng immigration depot for further action. During the operation a Bangladeshi man with a valid MM2H pas was also inspected due to his suspicious behavior," he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 28).
A second raid in Puchong was conducted later at night on the same day at a three-storey entertainment outlet.
The resulting raid saw a total of 65 people detained, including 45 female foreigners.
"The outlet's modus operandi included hiring foreign women to 'keep company' with their clientele. This was the shop's main attraction and they operated between 7pm and 3am.
"The women were paid between RM150 and RM300 for their first three hours. During the raid many were seen together with clients," he said.
He added that a local woman was also arrested with the department believing she had acted as caretaker for the employed women there.
All detainees have been placed at the KLIA immigration depot for further action.
