Sabah polls: Warisan to go it alone, contest all 73 seats, says Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan's Supreme Council has unanimously decided that the party will contest all 73 seats in the Sabah state assembly during the upcoming 17th state election (PRN17), says Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Warisan president also said the party will not form collaborations with other political parties for the election.

"The party has unanimously decided that our decision is to contest all 73 state seats. This means there will be no coalitions or collaborations. If you see photos or hear stories (that suggest otherwise), do not believe them.

"This is the party's decision, not the president's alone," he said at a press conference after chairing the Warisan supreme council meeting here Wednesday (Aug 27).

The 16th Sabah state assembly will be automatically dissolved on Nov 11 if it is not dissolved before that date, paving the way for the PRN17.

Mohd Shafie emphasised that Warisan will only collaborate with the people of Sabah. The party's focus is on meeting the people's needs, such as a reliable water supply, electricity, and good road infrastructure throughout the state, he said.

Elaborating on the party's decision to go solo, Mohd Shafie said Warisan had previously collaborated with various political parties, but these efforts failed to produce significant results in improving the welfare of Sabah's people.

"The concern of the party's leadership (about previous collaborations) is that they only want to know how many seats they will get. After getting the seats, they also want ministerial positions. If they don't get them, they jump again, over and over. The experience we have been through can disrupt the unity of the people of Sabah," he said. - Bernama
