KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has sought the assistance of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to locate the individual who sent threatening messages to the wife of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the authorities have sought assistance from MCMC to locate the individual.
"We are still working with the relevant agencies to trace the suspect.
"I believe we will obtain details on the individual soon,” he told a press conference after launching the Special Dialogue Series III on Tuesday (Aug 26).
Earlier reports revealed that the phone number used to send the threats was registered under a foreign national’s name.
Mohd Khalid said so far, police have recorded statements from 19 individuals to assist in investigations into the incident in which Rafizi’s son was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya on Aug 13.
He added that investigators have reviewed CCTV footage from the scene and are awaiting a chemical report from the hospital on the substance injected into Rafizi’s son.
It was reported the incident occurred around 2pm at the drop-off and pick-up area of the mall. The 12-year-old boy did not sustain any physical injuries.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the attack took place at the location, while Rafizi said in a statement that his son had been dragged and injected with a syringe by two men dressed entirely in black and wearing full-face helmets.
The attack allegedly occurred as Rafizi, his wife and son were about to get into their car.
