Foreign woman arrested in KK raid for alleged soliciting

KOTA KINABALU: A foreign woman suspected of soliciting for prostitution online has been arrested from a hotel in Penampang near here.

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said the arrest at Jalan Bundusan was made during an anti-vice raid at 10.30pm on Sunday (Aug 24).

He said policemen had gone to a hotel room to follow up on a lead when they found the woman inside.

“We believe she was soliciting for prostitution and used online platforms to search for clients,” he said.

Supt Sammy said items such as handphones, condoms and cash were seized from the raid.

Investigations were done based on Section 372B of the Penal Code for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution, he said.

If convicted, the offender faced up to a year’s jail with a fine, or both, he said.

Supt Sammy said Penampang police will continue to bust vice and other activities in the district while urging the community to help be the eyes and ears of the police force.
