Liew's absence at Api Api PKR election office launch raises eyebrows

KOTA KINABALU: Eyebrows have been raised after Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew did not attend the launch of Api Api PKR's election operations office here.

However, Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud played down speculation that Liew, who is PKR's three-term Api Api assemblyman, might be dropped.

"Perhaps she has other commitments as a minister and had to attend several programmes today. That's why she couldn't be present here," he said.

"On the candidate question, that will be decided later," Mustapha said at the event attended by PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah, Api Api PKR chief Grace Lee and Sabah DAP chief Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

Liew, 71, lost her Api Api post to Grace Lee during the party elections earlier this year.

Mustapha replaced her as Sabah PKR chairman in July 2024 and Sabah Pakatan Harapan subsequently voted in Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick to replace Liew as state chairman.
