Help ready on campus, varsity reminds students after tragedies

KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) has taken proactive steps to support the affected student community following the death of its two students at a Setapak condominium.

TAR UMT said in a statement that it has mobilised necessary care to those affected.

“We have reached out to their friends and housemates to provide support as they cope with the tragedy.

“TAR UMT remains committed to doing what is necessary regarding these cases,” it said on Wednesday.

The university also said it is carrying out an internal investigation and will be working closely with the police.

Meanwhile, TAR UMT said it has used its social media platforms to inform students about available counselling and support services.

On Facebook, the university reassured students with a message encouraging them to reach out for help.

“We’re here to listen, to support, and to be there for you.

“Our counselling and support services are always available to provide a safe and confidential space for you to talk.”

In addition to personal counselling, the university’s Student Affairs Department is offering free online webinars focused on suicide prevention, exclusively for TAR UMT KL main campus students.

These sessions, part of a series titled “See the Signs, Know the Truth, Be the Help,” aim to provide students with practical ways to care for themselves and support others.

A separate session is also available in Mandarin.

Earlier on Wednesday, two TAR UMT students died after falling from separate blocks of the same condominium in Setapak.

According to Sin Chew Daily, a 22-year-old female student fell from the 22nd floor of Block B at about 6.30am.

A male student was later found dead near the basketball court of Block A at about 8.30pm.
