Man sets woman, self on fire at Simpang Renggam toll plaza

KLUANG: A man and a woman who sustained serious burns were intubated after a car fire near the Simpang Renggam toll plaza here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrain Mohd Noh said the incident took place at 6am on Wednesday (Aug 13).

“Initial investigation found the 44-year-old local man had poured petrol and set himself ablaze,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrain said prior to setting himself ablaze, the suspect had dragged a 37-year-old local woman from a factory bus before pouring petrol into the flames.

He said police received a report from the bus driver about a man who attempted suicide by setting himself and the victim on fire.

“The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code,” said ACP Bahrain, adding that both victims have been admitted to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital near here.
