Zara Qairina probe: Inquest, criminal investigation to run concurrently, says M. Kumar

KUALA LUMPUR: The inquest into Zara Qairina Mahathir's death will run concurrently with the police’s own investigations into other elements, including possible foul play.

Bukit Aman, Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said that criminal investigations by the special task force have led to statements claiming bullying.

“There have been statements that were obtained stating bullying occurred before the incident. Before this, we did not have special legal provisions for bullying, but on July 11, these provisions have been enforced to combat bullying cases.

“Investigations are still ongoing and it will be referred to the Attorney General in the near future,” he said in a special press conference on Wednesday (Aug 13).

He also said that interventions would be conducted at the school to help the affected students going through mental health issues following the death.

“A total of 124 students are going through the intervention process. This process includes the use of psychiatric elements to help them go through this,” he said

Comm M. Kumar also said that all investigations would be conducted in a thorough and transparent manner.

“I give you all my assurance. There will be justice,” he said.
