SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha top officials, wardens temporarily reassigned amid police probe


PETALING JAYA: The principal, senior assistant for student affairs and all wardens of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha will be temporarily placed at the Sabah Education Department until investigation by the police is completed.

The Education Ministry, in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 13), said this decision follows the police's announcement that a Bukit Aman’s task force had taken over the investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir.

“The ministry will give its full cooperation to the authorities to ensure that the investigation is carried out thoroughly, meticulously, and comprehensively.

“As emphasised earlier, this case is currently the ministry’s top priority.

“The ministry hopes that a transparent and complete investigation will be conducted to ensure justice for the family and all parties involved,” the statement read.

Zara Qairina, was found unconscious near a drain close to her hostel building at the religious school in Papar on July 16. She subsequently died from her injuries the next day.
