KULAI: Two trained elephants have been brought to assist in the capture and eventual translocation of a wild pair here.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) brought in the two elephants named Sanu and Cherry from the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre.

Ling said a wild pair of elephants roaming the area was captured on Tuesday (Aug 12) and Perhilitan used the trained pair to assist with the translocation process

"Many videos and photos of them near an oil palm plantation in Ayer Bemban, Kulai, went viral on social media, with many claiming they are wild elephants," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 13).

He added the presence of the two elephants prompted many people to stop by the roadside and watch.

Ling advised the public not to approach or provoke any elephants they come across.
