MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for multiple states on Aug 9


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are forecast across several regions in Malaysia, with warnings in effect until 9am on Sunday (Aug 10), according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia stated in an update on its official website at 5am on Sunday that the warning covers parts of KEDAH, including Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.

PENANG is also affected as well as districts in PERAK like Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.

For KELANTAN, the warning was in place for Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh.

In TERENGGANU, Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu are affected.

In SELANGOR, the districts of Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang are under alert along with the Federal Territory of PUTRAJAYA.

NEGRI SEMBILAN’s affected areas are Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau.

The warning also covers MELAKA.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

The warnings are short-term and remain in effect for no longer than six hours from the time they are issued.
