Social media user pan PAS Youth info chief over sexist remarks online

PETALING JAYA: Social media users and women leaders have panned Maran PAS Youth information chief Muhammad Salman Al Farisi’s sexist remarks where he had compared women in leadership positions to female cows in a herd.

A user using the handle @wadahdaily said in an X post that PAS leaders kept comparing people to animals.

“PAS leaders keep comparing people to animals. This time, it's women who are the target. He said, 'don’t follow the female cow',” @wadahdaily said in the post.

User @KertasM01008886, meanwhile, said the analogy comparing women to a female cow was insensitive.

“This is an example of extreme patriarchy mentality,” said the X user.

Another user, @ekstensialsial, said the PAS leader who made the statement should apologise

In a social media post on Sunday (Aug 3), Muhammad Salman Al Farisi had likened women leaders to cows.

“When a female cow is appointed as the leader, she decides everything, while the males around her only know how to graze the crops,” he said in a social media post.

“That’s why, if possible, we shouldn’t be like cows that elevate their ‘female’ as their leader,” he said.

Meanwhile, a social media user going by Asmawi Ahmad, in a Facebook post, reminded Salman that the Temerloh MP from PAS is a woman.

“I would be embarrassed to admit that I am a PAS member,” he said.

Condemning the remarks, Bidadari Malaysia Welfare Organisation founder Napsiah Khamis Maharan described the statement as sexist, rude, and reflective of a backwards mindset.

PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reportedly defended Muhammad Salman, saying that the statement should be taken as a form of analogy in writing and was not intended to insult women.

Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional Wanita chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said Muhammad Salman’s opinion was a personal opinion and did not reflect PAS’ official stance.
