Two more cops detained for allegedly taking bribes to allow illegal gambling

JOHOR BARU: Two more policemen have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly accepting bribes totalling over RM630,000 in exchange for not taking action against illegal gambling activities.

Both suspects, in their 30s, were arrested at around 9pm on Wednesday (July 30) after giving their statements at the Johor MACC office.

According to a source, the arrests involve a total of RM635,000 in bribes, bringing the total number of suspects detained by MACC in connection with the case to four.

Meanwhile, Johor MACC deputy operations director Hairul Ilham Hamzah confirmed the arrests when contacted, saying they are being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

Both suspects have been remanded for six days until August 5.

The remand order was issued by assistant registrar Chai Ing Hien, following an application made at the Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning.
