Traffic near Sogo at standstill as protesters spill onto the road

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR) is at a standstill as a large group of the "Turun Anwar" protesters gathered near the Sogo shopping mall, effectively blocking some parts of the main road despite no initial closures by authorities.

Around 1pm, traffic flow from Maju Junction heading towards Dataran Merdeka was severely disrupted as protest participants began to occupy the area around a key traffic light junction.

The sheer number of attendees made the route impassable to vehicles.

Police were later seen positioning their motorcycles to block the road, a move believed to be aimed at managing the traffic congestion.

The demonstration caused significant delays, forcing motorists coming from Chow Kit to divert through Jalan Dang Wangi and the stretch between Sogo and Kompleks Pertama to continue their journey.

Several drivers expressed frustration over the disruption, citing inconvenience and unexpected detours due to the road blockage.

No untoward incidents were reported as of press time.
