Military officer dies in head-on collision with tanker


ALOR GAJAH: A 24-year-old military officer was killed in a head-on collision with a tanker on his way to work at Jalan Solok Duku in Masjid Tanah.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah identified the deceased as Lft/M Muhammad Akmal Mohamad Amjaduzzahwi from the Royal Malay Army Regiment at Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang.

He said the victim died on the spot due to severe head injuries in the accident at 4.19am on Saturday (July 19).

Supt Ashari said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased is believed to have lost control of his car before colliding with the tanker.

The deceased was travelling to Terendak Camp from Masjid Tanah while the tanker was heading from Tanjung Bidara to Masjid Tanah.

Supt Ashari added that the 42-year-old tanker driver tested negative for drugs but had seven previous traffic offence records.

The accident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
