KOTA KINABALU: A man has gone missing after he was believed to have been mauled by a crocodile while fishing by the riverbank in Kinabatangan.

Mare Miri, a 39-year-old immigrant, was fishing with four friends when the reptile went up the bank and snatched him.

According to the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Department, firemen received a report about the incident at 1.14pm on Sunday.

He said a search and rescue team was dispatched to the scene at 6.48pm, some 241km from the fire station.

Yus said the search involved villagers as well, with their boats used in the search operation, together with other agencies.
