Perhentian boat capsize: Skipper pleads guilty to drug abuse


JERTIH: The skipper of a boat which capsized off Pulau Perhentian last Saturday, killing three of the passengers, has pleaded guilty at the Besut Magistrate's Court here to drug abuse.

Azrie Yazid, 22, was charged with self-administration of the drug Nimetazepam, which is listed in Parts III and IV of the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He was charged with committing the offence at the Narcotics Office, Besut District Headquarters, here at 10.05am on June 29.

The charge, under Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years upon conviction.

The court allowed Azrie bail of RM2,500 with one surety and set Sept 4 for mention. – Bernama
