MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm, heavy rain warning for seven states


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in seven states and Kuala Lumpur until 5pm on Wednesday (July 2).

In Kedah, the affected districts include Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Bahru.

In Perak, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim were on alert for severe weather.

Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Raub), Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat), Johor (Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru) and Kuala Lumpur were also expected to be affected.

The advisory was also issued for Sarawak: Mukah (Mukah), Bintulu and Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Sabah: Sandakan (Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan)

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
